She/Her,

Possibly Our 1st Customer Ever, Business Lady, Food Blogger, Real Cool :)

Help our readers get to know you! How do you unwind and enjoy your free time?

I've always had a love for learning, so there's a lot of reading going on, but I also really enjoy cooking and gardening. Lately, I've been learning about mild home renovation, so there's a bit of that going on, too. In the last few months of the year, though, all of my spare time is spent in the woods hunting with my dad and a few select friends. We harvest a lot of deer for ourselves, friends, and various bartering and gifting opportunities throughout the year. (Ariana has actually traded deer for highlights a number of times)

How long have you been part of the Misfit Concepts family?

I'm like that weird friend your mom has from highschool; I've been around since before Misfit Concepts was born! I actually met Ariana before this adventure and started letting her play with my hair when she was in school. She's an artist at heart, so I trusted her with color from the start. I've been loyal ever since and was happy when she launched MC and became her own boss!

There are so many salons out there—what makes us your go-to place?

I fit in on this island of misfit toys! Seriously, though, it's trust, loyalty, and that sense of family. Supporting local is very important to me, but it is a little easier in this line of business; however, supporting someone you watched learn and grow is even more rewarding than just keeping your money in the local economy

Is there a product you can’t live without? Share why it’s your must-have!

That scalp tonic (The Tonik by Cult+King) is amazing, and I recently found that I just can't live without it when there was a supply shortage of the refill bottles. I tried to just skip it but ended up digging into my travel stock to survive. Thankfully, MC texted me the moment the stock came in and even sent me an invoice and packed it up so I could swing by on my way home from the office to get it.

What’s one hair care or styling tip you’ve learned from us that you’d pass along to others?

Use the nubby scrub thing to help clean your scalp when you wash then follow through with the scalp tonic and condition those ends! And sometimes you need a clarifying shampoo, deep conditioning treatment, or hair oil; these times may be random, but just pay attention. I'm pretty low maintenance and lazy, but I make sure to listen to my hair. She only gets washed when she needs it, moisturized when she wants it, and very sparingly blow dried or styled with heat.

Lastly, what’s one word that best describes your experience with us?

Authentic. Being authentic is very important to me, and I love being in the MC space because there's nowhere for fake to hide. The staff is real and wonderful and the vibe matches mine. I don't have to be ON to go; I can just be.
