Misfit Concepts Goes Weeb for 2024 Pride
You might be wondering… What exactly does it mean to go Weeb for Pride? Well, dear gentle reader, it means unleashing your inner otaku while flaunting your fabulousness! We're talking about combining the vibrant hues of the rainbow glitter and sparkle, lovingly applied by your favorite glitter techs in the world, with the bold aesthetic of your favorite characters from anime, video games, pop culture, or fantasy! So hold onto your wigs, because Misfit Concepts is about to sprinkle some seriously twinkly magic at AkaiCon June 28th-30th, Nashville's ultimate anime experience, during Pride Month 2024!
But first, let's talk about Akai Con.
This iconic convention has been a staple of Nashville's anime scene for years, bringing together fans of Japanese animation and culture for a weekend of cosplay, panels, and pure nerdy bliss. From classics like Dragon Ball Z to the latest hits like My Hero Academia, AkaiCon has something for every anime aficionado, whether you're a seasoned otaku or just dipping your toes into the world of kawaii. You can come in full cosplay, or pick up key artifacts for your look as you shop through the plaza of vendors in the Dealer Room which hosts 60+ artists and vendors for you to check out! You can also plan to fill the tummy with something oishiiiii yummy from the mobile food selections such as Bubble Pop Tea and local fav Dynasty Ramen available on site! Check out a map of the event here.
fun fact: I am a D. Va main :)
AkaiCon is run by a passionate team of local volunteers who pour their hearts and souls into making each year better than the last. This local gem has had a range of 500 people in attendance in its beginnings, and up to 2000+ in attendance at its peak, and the event is still growing steadily. Last year, they made waves by hosting an 18+ drag show benefiting the Tennessee Equality Project, proving that they're not afraid to use their platform to support important causes and give back to the LGBTQ community. Their dedication to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment has earned them a reputation as one of the friendliest conventions around, where fans can come together to geek out without fear of judgment. This got our attention at Misfit Concepts last year when we started our initiative to be more involved and supportive with in our business. We joined the TN Pride Chamber of Commerce and hosted a sparkle booth and the city’s pride event last year.
This year the event is hosting Cosplay competitions for both under and over 18, lip-syncing (for your liiiiiife!! I won’t be missing that), photo shoots, and the KiRA KiRA/ GiRA GiRA idol festivals! Sign ups are still open for these events so be sure to jump on it!
Did you know Misfit Concepts has its own pokestop? :3
So, if you're heading to AkaiCon this Pride month, be sure to swing by the Misfit Concepts booth and say hello. We'll be waiting with open arms (and plenty of glitter!) We will be located in the Made In TN building with the LARPING, photography, gaming lounge, and information booth. We are told it is chill over there, so come by and take a breather and let our zesty citrus glitter techs dose you with some sparkle that is custom for you <3 You can go to their website for information about tickets, vendors, and events! It is a family friendly convention, but there are some 18+ events in the evenings that will be a lot of fun! And of course, come in your best cosplay and be ready to come home with some amazing merch. We will be there to add some sparkle to your look to make it all the more magical. We will be offering hair tinsel and body glitter all weekend!
Your sparkly leader,
